Winchester hospital staff honoured for hundreds of years of service

STAFF at a Winchester hospital have been honoured for giving 605 years service between them.

The 62 staff from various departments of the BMI Sarum Road Hospital were presented with long service pins for their hard work and dedication to their patients, their roles and BMI Healthcare in a ceremony at the Guildhall in Winchester (on Friday January 27).

Of those receiving an award, 34 got five-year pins, 11 received their ten-year award and six were presented with 20 year pin.

Ward Nurse Valerie Bicknell, who started work at the hospital in 1976 and received the longest serving pin of 35 years, said she had watched it grow from the 19 bed private hospital to the 48 beds it has today.

She added: “It’s a very happy environment to work in and it's great to be recognised in this way for the hard work we all do.”

Sharon Greasley, director of nursing, said: “BMI Sarum Road Hospital has such a fantastic team; people like Valerie really make the difference.”
