Meadow memorial for wildlife lovers near Bishop's Waltham

A MEMORIAL to wildlife lovers has been erected in a Hampshire meadow.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Trust has newly designated a memorial meadow close to Bishop’s Waltham.

Residents can sponsor the Hoe Road Memorial Meadow in memory of a loved one, as a tribute to someone who cared about wildlife.

Names will be displayed on oak plinths in the meadow to acknowledge a donation.

Hoe Road Memorial Meadow was donated to the trust by supporter Nancy Mason 20 years ago, and is now managed as a small nature reserve.

In the summer the meadow blooms with wild flowers meaning such areas are rich in wildlife and support a diverse range of species, many of which are in decline across the country.

Each summer, relatives of those whose names are displayed can take a guided walk to learn about the wildlife.

The suggested donation is £100.

Southern Co-operative Funeralcare, which is a corporate member of the trust, is backing the project.
