Tories win byelection for seat on county council

THE Conservatives have retained their seat on Hampshire County Council vacant after the death of Cllr Freddie Allgood.

Pat Stallard, a Winchester city councillor, comfortably won the byelection yesterday (THURS) in the Winchester Southern Parishes division, centred on Denmead.

The electorate is 12,140 and the turnout was 25.45 per cent.

The full result was: Pat Stallard (Con) 1,661; Vivian Achwal (Lib Dem) 1,038; Stephen Harris (UK Ind) 133; John Vivian (Green) 130; David Picton-Jones (Lab) 124.
